Heading for Germany? Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon hopes suffer a blow

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, Ryan Sessegnon is ready to run down his contract with Fulham before joining Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.

What’s the word, then?

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be strongly linked with a swoop for Sessegnon, who starred for Fulham during their 2017-18 Championship campaign, and The Daily Mail have even described him as a key target for the north London club.

The England Under-21 international has not shown the same form in the Premier League, but has been able to gain some valuable experience of top-flight football.

At the age of 18, Sessegnon has scored 25 goals in 115 appearances for Fulham, who have already been relegated back to the Championship.

It had been thought that the teenager would leave Craven Cottage this summer, with Tottenham potentially completing a deal for the left-sided player.

However, according to The Sun, Sessegnon is ready to see out his Fulham contract – which expires in 2020 – before moving to Dortmund on a free transfer.

How will this one end?

Jadon Sancho is just one example of a young English player who has left the Premier League behind to star in Germany.

Sessegnon is certainly a talent, but is unlikely to receive too much first-team football for Tottenham next season if he makes the move to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Dortmund, on the other hand, have handed Sancho a starring role since his arrival and could be ready to offer Sessegnon similar opportunities.

Check out the video below to see how Brazil fans reacted to being asked how Cristiano Ronaldo would perform for them in a hilarious prank by Pl>ymaker FC…

The Fulham youngster might well feel that his career would be best served by playing another season of Championship football, before heading abroad for a couple of years ahead of a potential return to the Premier League.

Tottenham missed out on the chance to sign the versatile teenager last summer and could now be frustrated once again with a move to Dortmund seemingly a genuine possibility.

Rangers must prioritise signing Kalas to partner Goldson

[ad_pod ]

Bristol Live have added fuel to the fire of Rangers’ interest in Tomas Kalas, so should the Gers swoop for the 25 year-old this summer?

What’s the story?

Both Rangers and Celtic want to sign Kalas this summer. That was according to The Daily Record earlier this month, who claimed the two Glasgow giants were leading the race for his signature.

Now, Bristol Live have published a collection of comments on Kalas’ future from both the player and his manager, and once again reinforced that Rangers are linked with him.

The Chelsea defender, who has spent time on loan with Vitesse, FC Koln, Middlesbrough, Fulham and now Bristol City, is out of contract this summer, meaning Steven Gerrard and the Gers can swoop in and secure a bargain solution to one of their biggest problems.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Bad memories

Gerrard may not be Kalas’ biggest fan if truth be told. The 18-cap Czech Republic international made his Premier League debut for Chelsea in a game that the gaffer will never forget, as Liverpool fell to a 2-0 defeat that effectively ended their title hopes back in 2014.

The versatile defender was superb in that game, drawing loads of plaudits for his surprising debut after he was drafted in to replace the injured John Terry.

Per Whoscored, Kalas completed 80 per cent of his passes that day, which was the highest of any Chelsea starter, and also made a whopping nine clearances.

Without his calmness on the ball, helping Chelsea establish more and more control as the game went on, then Gerrard may just have the one medal he is missing from his playing career.

Perfect for Goldson

While the gaffer won’t have fond memories of it, it is this ball-playing ability that makes Kalas the perfect signing to partner Connor Goldson.

The need to find a new partner for the ex-Brighton ace has become increasingly apparent throughout the season, and Goldson’s physical dominance and leadership will combine perfectly with Kalas’ reading of the game and composure on the ball.

If Kalas is really looking for regular playing time at a club he can call his home, as his comments suggest, then Gerrard should do everything in his power to convince him to join up with Goldson.

Sheffield United: Duffy absence could prove pivotal for club’s promotion hopes

The Championship automatic promotion race saw yet another dramatic twist occur last weekend.

Sheffield United’s 3-2 defeat at home to Bristol City allowed Leeds United to leapfrog them in the league standings whilst Norwich City’s victory at Middlesbrough saw them edge even closer to a return to the Premier League.

The manner of the Blades’ loss would have been a concern to boss Chris Wilder as his side were within 13 minutes of securing victory at Bramall Lane before Andreas Weimann scored twice to complete his hat-trick at the Robins. One of the key reasons for their collapse was the absence of midfielder Mark Duffy who was ruled out of the game after picking an Achilles injury in training (via the Star).

Although he was only expected miss one game, he is now a major doubt for this weekend’s crucial clash against play-off chasing Preston North End with the Blades expected to field Kieran Dowell in his position at Deepdale. Duffy’s impact this season has seen him score five goals and provide five assists for his teammates whilst also developing a fruitful midfield partnership with Oliver Norwood and John Fleck. Giving the fact that he could be missing once again for United, Wilder’s side face an uphill battle to continue their push for a top-two finish.

With the Blades currently two points behind Leeds in the league standings, they cannot afford to drop any more points with just seven games left to play. Therefore, they will be hoping that if Duffy can return against Birmingham City on April 10th if he is not fit enough to play on Saturday.

In a battle for promotion which is undoubtedly going to have an incredible crescendo in the Championship, it will be harsh on Wilder and his players if they miss out in May due to the injuries that they have suffered during the run-in.

What do you think Blades fans? How big of a blow would it be to lose Duffy for Saturday’s game against Preston? Could your promotion hopes be dashed by his absence? Let us know below.

Amadou Diawara can be Mark Noble’s long-term heir at West Ham United

West Ham, like almost every other Premier League team, desperately need to do some recruiting during the summer transfer window, if they want to push to where they think they belong in the league. Indeed, fans will have loved the taste of success the Manuel Pellegrini era has teased them with this season, but more is certainly needed.

European qualification simply has to be the ambition this season but with that now being a longshot, the Hammers must look to buy some more quality to ensure it’s at least a better possibility next season. Indeed, Pellegrini is surely a manager the West Ham board can trust with a hefty budget as it has to be said that the Hammers do need a number of new players.

Starting with another midfielder due to the injury problems West Ham have sustained specifically in that position.

This season, Jack Wilshere, Carlos Sanchez and Manuel Lanzini have all suffered long-term lay-offs, so the ambitious East London side should look to sign a player like Napoli’s Amadou Diawara.

Diawara, (who is valued at £14.4 million on Transfermarkt) is a defensive-minded midfielder that has all the quality to be a top player in the game. Pellegrini has often utilised a midfield trio of Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Robert Snodgrass but with Amadou Diawara in the mix as well, he would bring an injection of pace and overall quality.

The 21-year-old – who was linked with a move to the London Stadium by Tuttomercato Web in January – has only been able to make 11 starts for Napoli this season, something that will disappoint the youngster, concerning how highly-rated he is.

Nevertheless, if he opted for a move to England, West Ham would be a terrific option for him considering how badly they need a midfielder like him. Around such a talent, the phasing out of Noble could begin, giving the Irons a long-term heir.

It may take a hefty sum for West Ham to try and push through a deal but Diawara has so much potential that definitely makes him worth investing in.

Marco Van Ginkel can be the missing piece to Rangers’ title push

Rangers need a creative midfielder and even Steven Gerrard’s admitted it. It must be the Gers’ top priority in the summer, and they should look no further than Marco van Ginkel.

The 26-year-old made 28 appearances on loan at PSV last season, scoring 14 goals and assisting four. However, a cruciate ligament injury prevented him sealing a permanent move, and knee surgery in June meant he was sidelined for eight months.

He was included in Chelsea’s revised Premier League squad at the start of the year, and when he returns Gerrard should take the risk and bring him to Ibrox as they look to challenge for the title next season.

The Dutchman’s quality was clear, but it still doesn’t seem he’s got a future at Chelsea, and the Gers can take advantage of this to attract a quality of player that may not usually be attainable the club. His creativity and vision is something Gerrard knows his team have lacked this season.

Regarding the addition of a playmaker in January, he told a press conference: “A number  10 was an area we tried but maybe targets you’re after aren’t available or with the funds available you can’t make that happen” (quotes sourced from the Scottish Sun)

He was clearly disappointed with the club’s inability to bring in a player like Van Ginkel, so with him having dropped off many teams’ radars due to injury, it could be the perfect match.

Chelsea bought him for just £8.46m in 2013, so it doesn’t seem like they’ll drive a hard bargain if the Gers did come in for him, so the move makes financial sense too. He could well be the missing piece to Rangers’ title challenge.

Leeds fans disheartened after Pablo Hernandez injury update

[ad_pod ]

Leeds fans on Twitter are downbeat after Marcelo Bielsa announced Pablo Hernandez is a ‘doubt’ for Tuesday night’s game against Preston North End in his pre-match press conference.

The Spaniard has been the Yorkshire outfit’s talisman this season setting up 11 goals whilst finding the net himself on 12 occasions.

The Whites slipped behind in the race for automatic promotion after their loss to Birmingham City on Saturday.

Fans have now gone into meltdown on Twitter after the injury update was given on Monday, with many believing that their form will suffer without Hernandez in the squad.

United face North End in their next match and the supporters appear to have had the wind knocked out of their sails as the club could be without arguably their best player for one of the most important games of the campaign.

Certain sections of the fanbase are now resigned to getting beat by Alex Neil’s men whilst others believe Leeds’ automatic promotion chances are now over.

Here’s what Leeds fans had to say on Twitter…

Mixed opinions: West Ham fans react to suggestions of Edin Dzeko interest

[ad_pod ]

According to Il Messaggero, West Ham United are still hoping to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma this summer, despite strong competition from Inter Milan.

Dzeko is enjoying another productive campaign for Roma, finding the back of the net on 12 occasions in 30 appearances in all competitions.

The centre-forward has actually scored a very impressive 85 times in 169 appearances  for his Italian club since arriving from Manchester City, initially on loan.

Dzeko will see his contract in Rome expire in June 2020, though, and it has previously been suggested that West Ham were in the market for the striker.

The West Ham fans have been on social media offering their views on the transfer report and it would be fair to say that there are some mixed opinions.

Indeed, whilst a number want their side to move for Dzeko as a replacement for Andy Carroll, others feel that the 33-year-old is not what the club need.

Nottingham Forest fans react to Luke Steele display vs Sheffield Wednesday

[ad_pod ]

Nottingham Forest manager Martin O’Neill handed goalkeeper Luke Steele his first Championship start since February 2018 against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night, and Reds fans delivered their verdict on the 6 ft 2 player both during the game and post-match.

The 34-year-old was given an opportunity by the former Republic of Ireland boss with Costel Pantilimon dropping to the substitutes’ bench, and it looked as though it was going to prove to be an inspired decision following an impressive first half where he pulled off one fantastic save.

However, just two minutes after half-time he was caught horribly out of position by Marco Matias who found the net from 35 yards, with the visitors to Hillsborough going on to be beaten 3-0 in Yorkshire.

With their faint play-off hopes fading, Forest supporters took to Twitter to have their say on their stopper’s display, and the majority weren’t pleased with him.

Unsurprisingly Matias’ strike was a popular talking point, and while one simply said “wow” – presumably having seen the goal – another said “Luke Steele didn’t see that coming”.

Here is just a selection of the reaction…

Phil Foden a huge beneficiary of any Manchester City transfer ban

Can Manchester City complete an unprecedented quadruple? With anyone apart from Pep Guardiola in-charge, that ambition would have been met by sceptics but City really do have a great chance of achieving the unthinkable this season.

With a potential transfer ban (via the Times) soon to gather over the Etihad, it’s lucky enough that Manchester City already have a brilliant squad and they could survive easily without the need to sign anyone.

Obviously, they are a club that loves to spend but whilst their squad already contains a host of world-class players, they can sustain a trophy hunt no matter how long they’re banned for. Although it may not seem that way initially, Manchester City may find it beneficial not to sign anyone, instead giving the young players a real chance to make substantial progress in the first-team.

One player who’s been around the main squad over the last two seasons now is Phil Foden and he could be one of many that benefits from Man City signing no more players.

Foden, (who is valued at £22.5 million on Transfermarkt) is one of the brightest talents, not only at Manchester City, not only in England, but the world.

His on-the-ball technique and tight control has allowed him to fit right in with Pep Guardiola’s side and the young Englishman is set to enjoy a terrific career in football.

His implementation within the first-team has been slow so far due to the endless amounts of quality City already have in his role.

With the transfer ban potentially soon to come in though, it at least will stop others getting ahead of him in the pecking order.

At just 18, Phil Foden appears ready to take a more prominent role within the first-team and giving him the opportunity could prove to be a great thing for all involved.
