Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid 3-1 at the Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, as they came from behind, and shrugged off a missed Robert Lewandowski penalty, to record a vital three points. Raphinha, Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres all found the net, after Alex Baena had fired Atletico into an early lead.
Atleti had the lead within 20 minutes, as Baena sprang the offside trap brilliantly, and calmly slotted beyond Joan Garcia in goal.
But Barca were level swiftly, as Raphinha got on the end of a fine through ball from Pedri to round Jan Oblak and finish.
On 38 minutes, Barca had the chance to take the lead before half-time as a penalty was awarded after a foul on Olmo in the area but Lewandowski smashed the effort over the crossbar in a wild miss from 12 yards.
After the hour, in the second half, Olmo did it himself, rounding out a brilliant team move to finish brilliantly from the edge of the box. As he was shooting, he appeared to fall badly on his shoulder, but the finish was remarkable.
And in injury time, substitute Ferran rounded out the victory with a smart finish from close-range after Alejandro Balde's cross.

Goalkeeper & Defence
Joan Garcia (6/10):
Did nothing to put Baena off. Wasn't really tested thereafter.
Jules Kounde (6/10):
Miles out of position for the opener but recovered well to play a key role in both build-up and in preserving his side's lead.
Pau Cubarsi (6/10):
Could do nothing to help his stricken team-mates for the opener. Did really well on the ball and stood up to Atletico's press.
Gerard Martin (5/10):
Lost Baena as he ran through and finished but it comes down to Flick's tactics. Booked for a terrible recovery challenge that could have been a red, as he was again exposed by the high line. Did grow into it, but a lucky boy to play 90.
Alejandro Balde (6/10):
Struggled a little throughout the first half but grew into the game and provided the assist for Ferran in injury time.

Midfield
Pedri (9/10):
Superb pass for Raphinha to finish. Barely gives the ball away and created three chances by himself. One of the best midfielders in the world, proving it once again.
Eric Garcia (7/10):
Can be bypassed at times due to the height of Barca's defensive line, but he mucked in well, and took good care of the ball.
Dani Olmo (9/10):
Won the penalty with some clever dribbling but had to watch Lewandowski miss. Scored brilliantly but hurt himself in the process and was subbed. A brilliantly dynamic performance.

Attack
Lamine Yamal (8/10):
Won more duels than anyone else and completed more dribbles than anyone else. He's special, even if he didn't quite put the finishing touch to a performance that deserved one.
Robert Lewandowski (5/10):
A truly appalling miss from 12 yards. He swiftly did his laces up on his boots but there can be no excuse for such a poor spot-kick. Brilliantly denied by Oblak minutes after. Subbed in the second half for Rashford. Not his night.
Raphinha (8/10):
Smashed an effort over the bar early on. Took Pedri's pass in his stride and finished excellently. Always a threat but scuffed a huge chance wide when one-on-one, the only blot on his copybook.

Subs & Manager
Ferran Torres (X/10):
Came on for Olmo after his injury. Finished it off with a fine finish in injury time.
Marcus Rashford (6/10):
On for Lewandowski. One chance to shoot but slammed it wide. Always a willing runner.
Dro Fernandez (N/A):
Replaced Pedri.
Marc Casado (N/A)
On for Raphinha.
Hansi Flick (6/10):
The high line continues to cause problems, but Barcelona ultimately got the job done, and took all three points from what looked like a potential banana skin. Job done.
The Baltimore Orioles on Saturday fired manager Brandon Hyde amid a disappointing start to the 2025 season. Many of the Orioles players, feeling responsible for the club's lackluster 15-29 start to the season, were gutted that Hyde lost his job as a result of Baltimore's underachieving play. It was clear how much of an impact Hyde left on the players, both professionally and on a personal level.
"He’s put me in a lot of great positions to succeed, and I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done,” shortstop Gunnar Henderson told MLB.com. “I hate it for him and his family."
"It’s really tough. He’s the only manager I have played for in the big leagues so far, and obviously, I’m so grateful for the opportunity that he gave me,” infielder Ramon Urías said. “We’re going to miss him as a person."
Showing a maturity beyond his years, Orioles' 21-year-old infielder Jackson Holliday took responsibility for the players' role in Hyde's firing.
"I think everyone understands that. He’s not the one playing the games. We’re the ones playing the games," Holliday said. "We haven’t lived up to our expectations, and it’s difficult."
While it's worth noting that the Orioles' spending habits haven't done Hyde any favors, it's also alarming just how much the club has regressed under the 2023 American League Manager of the Year. Baltimore, which won 101 games just two years ago and featured one of the most productive young lineups in the big leagues, has scored the sixth-fewest runs this season. The club also has the third-worst ERA in the majors and has been a below-average defensive team.
It remains to be seen if the Orioles will fare better under interim manager Tony Mansolino. In the first game with Mansolino as skipper on Saturday, the Orioles were down 7-0 after just two innings en route to a 10-6 defeat at the hands of the Washington Nationals.
Elly De La Cruz was robbed of an at-bat on Sunday, and the Cincinnati Reds broadcast blasted the umpire.
In the first inning of the Cincinnati Reds' matchup with the Houston Astros, De La Cruz struck out on a terrible call by an awful home plate umpire. C.B. Bucknor rung De La Cruz up on a pitch that was near his ankles. His manager and teammates couldn't believe it.
In the top of the first inning, TJ Friedl and Matt McLain both struck out swinging against Astros pitcher Ronel Blanco. De La Cruz stepped in with two outs and got ahead in the count 2–0. He took back-to-back sliders that Blanco threw for strikes. With a 2–2 count, Blanco threw a changeup down an in and Bucknor called it a strike.
Video is below.
Reds play-by-play man John Sadak took a subtle shot there, just naming Bucknor after the call. Reminding viewers who was at fault was the only message he needed to send.
At the end of that video, you can see Reds infielder Gavin Lux yelling at Bucknor for that call. It was brutal and took the bat out of Cincinnati's best player's hands.
De La Cruz doesn't need Bucknor assisting him when it comes to strikeouts. He entered the game second in MLB having struck out 51 times. This marked No. 52. In 2024, he led the majors with 218 strikeouts.
Chris Sutton took aim at one Leeds United star after spotting an “odd” moment in the Whites’ dramatic 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
Leeds lose late on at Man City
It was very nearly an unforgettable afternoon for Leeds, who came from behind to level things up at 2-2 in the second-half, courtesy of Lukas Nmecha’s reactions to rebound from his own penalty.
As so many have experienced at the Etihad over the years, however, it simply wasn’t to be for Daniel Farke’s men. The Citizens’ simply had too much quality and, for a split second, Phil Foden had too much time. The England international fired home his second goal of the day in the 91st minute to break Leeds’ hearts.
Upon reflection, Farke will be wishing that he started with Dominic Calvert-Lewin rather than setting up to frustrate Man City. It took just 59 seconds for Foden to give the hosts the lead, before Josko Gvardiol’s goal looked to be the beginning of a thrashing.
Farke soon changed things at the break, though, and Calvert-Lewin’s effort from the bench set the tone for Nmecha to then go and convert the rebound of his own spotkick.
The Yorkshire side certainly deserved at least a point, but simply felt the harsh reality of the Premier League in its full extent instead. From here, they must pick themselves up and go again against Chelsea at Elland Road.
Things won’t be getting any easier for a Leeds side who could be three points adrift of safety if other results go against them this weekend.
Chris Sutton, covering the game for BBC Sport, was particularly critical of Pascal Struijk in the first-half after spotting an “odd” moment from the Leeds defender.
Sutton slams "odd" Pascal Struijk moment
Taking aim, Sutton slammed Struijk for how he was “content” with entering the break at 2-0 down, wasting time at the end of the first-half. The defender’s aim was damage control and, to his credit, it worked in his favour as Leeds soon came from behind.
The moment, which sparked Sutton’s frustration, may well have helped Leeds stay in the game. It was an absolute onslaught from Man City in the first period and Farke desperately needed to get his side back into the game without letting the hosts out of sight. And the £50,000-a-week defender was well aware of that.
The visitors can take a lot of positives, despite their defeat. It’s very rare that sides come to the Etihad, find themselves 2-0 down and don’t find themselves on the end of a battering. Leeds, however, showed plenty of fight.

Pakistan lost their last five wickets for just 17 runs during a dramatic collapse

Keshav Maharaj now has the best bowling figures for a South African in Pakistan•Getty Images
Sometimes, when Test cricket is played well, it can be slightly dull and the pair of Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs made no apologies for prioritising good cricket over entertaining cricket for the second half of the day. South Africa were much better placed going into the third day than they have been at any time this series, 148 runs short of Pakistan’s first innings 333 with six wickets still in hand. That they were not further adrift came thanks to a heroic shift early in the morning from Keshav Maharaj, who took all five Pakistani wickets to top up his two overnight, inducing a 17-run collapse for Pakistan’s bottom half.It might have been all so different if Pakistan – usually so trigger-happy when bringing the third umpire into the game – had done so in the 26th over. Asif Afridi had pushed de Zorzi, batting on 5, onto the back foot as the ball flicked him just above the knee roll. Short leg held onto it and Pakistan, distracted by an appeal for the catch, failed to consider lbw might be a more plausible shout. Down to just one review, they passed it up only for HawkEye to show three reds.It was a rare chance either de Zorzi or Stubbs offered as they settled into the tedium of steady accumulation, aware that one wicket could bring a surge from Pakistan that might wash away their challenge entirely. The first eight overs post-tea brought just 17 runs, but time wasn’t a factor in the game at the moment. The pair waited patiently to earn their right to score runs, and had the humility to opt for survival when good deliveries shut down scoring options, eventually adding 113 runs for the third wicket.Related

Maharaj: 'Old-fashioned Test cricket' helped us claw back
First day in Pindi = first day in Lahore
From time to time, Pakistan offered the odd poor delivery, gifts both accepted with alacrity. A waist-high full toss from Sajid was dispatched away for four, while Noman darted one in that de Zorzi slapped over long-on after dancing down the track. Both used their feet superbly to neutralise and unsettle the spinners, and it was a ploy that, for the most part, Pakistan appeared to lack clear responses to. When Stubbs misjudged and came down too far on a rare occasion, he smacked the ball straight back at Sajid, who was defeated by the pace of the ball. Soon after, de Zorzi made amends, skipping out of his crease to Sajid. He lifted the ball over his head for a six that took him to fifty. The milestones were being ticked off now. Two balls earlier, Stubbs had got there, and in the following over, the 100-run partnership – South Africa’s first this series – was brought up.It was in the final half hour that Pakistan dragged it back far enough to prevent South Africa unequivocally laying claim to the day. The 38-year-old debutant Asif Afridi didn’t exactly look Pakistan’s most threatening bowler for the most part, but hit a spot that caused the ball to dive, trapping de Zorzi halfway up the shin. This time, Pakistan made sure to review. South Africa required a vulnerable Dewald Brevis to stick it out until the end, but Asif broke through once more. This time, it was a lovely conventional orthodox left-armer’s delivery which got him the wicket. Salman Agha at first slip made no mistake pouncing on the edge.Pakistan’s penchant for collapses had continued at breakneck speed in the morning, with South Africa removing Pakistan’s last five for 17 runs to dismiss them for 333. Maharaj, who had earlier called the first session in this series the “moving session”, did most of the moving himself, taking all five of the morning’s wickets for a seven-wicket haul.Pakistan will content themselves with the fact that Agha and Saud Shakeel put on 57 brisk runs in the morning to continue their sixth-wicket stand. They were in complete control during the first hour, milking the spinners while picking up the occasional boundary. Kagiso Rabada’s opening spell was seen off without damage. Until Maharaj began his rampage, there were no visible signs of discomfort against him either. In the over before the first wicket fell, Shakeel had scored eight runs off him as Pakistan moved their score past 300.Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi added 113 runs for the third wicket•Associated Press
But things unravelled quickly – within 18 Maharaj deliveries, to be precise. An arm-ball slid onto Agha, who played for the turn and found himself trapped in front. The following Maharaj over, Shakeel softly guided one into the palms of first slip, with South Africa making no mistakes in the field. Shaheen Shah Afridi’s attempted wafts over midwicket were meat and drink for the spinner, who guided one through the gate to rattle his stumps. Maharaj would need just four more balls to dispense with Sajid and Asif.Pakistan’s early threat with the ball came all down to Shaheen. In the first Test, he found ways to be effective with the old reversing ball, but in the first half hour here, it was the new ball in his hand that proved to be a menace. Aiden Markram was worked over in his second over after lunch, surviving an lbw review and nearly nicking off. But Shaheen’s reward came against Ryan Rickelton in the over that followed, finding seam movement to kiss the outside edge and Mohammad Rizwan to take a straightforward catch. After that six-over burst, Pakistan turned to spin, and both sides settled into a steady grind. There were streaks of dot deliveries, the monotony broken occasionally by a dance down the ground to loft spin over the top. It proved a largely successful plan on a pitch that hasn’t yet opened up to spinners, but as lunch neared and Pakistan turned to Sajid, Markram tried his luck once too often.Sajid delivered the wicket ball with a bit of flight outside off, and Markram’s drag over long-on didn’t have the power he was targeting. Shan Masood had stationed Shakeel about eight yards on from the boundary, who barely had to move to gratefully pouch it.It was a rare shot of irresponsibility from a South African side that has struck an excellent balance between run-scoring and survival. In the end, thanks to Stubbs and de Zorzi, they found a way to do both today.
Samuel Luckhurst criticised a Manchester United star, who looked “haunted” in the first half of the 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Man Utd complete second-half comeback to prevail at Palace
Man United’s performance in the first half of the win against the Eagles left a lot to be desired, with Mark Goldbridge taking to X to criticise Ruben Amorim, while also taking aim at the manager’s reluctance to change things at half-time.
However, Amorim’s approach ultimately paid off, with Joshua Zirkzee cancelling out Jean-Philippe Mateta’s opener early in the second half, before Mason Mount secured all three points after being laid off by Bruno Fernandes from a free-kick.
The Red Devils were able to close out a 2-1 win, bringing their four-game winless run against Palace to an end, but it was far from a vintage performance, with Luckhurst taking to X to criticise Casemiro’s performance during the first half.
The reporter said: “Not remotely got going and Casemiro looks haunted up against Adam Wharton again.”
Man Utd should go all out to sign Wharton
It is little wonder United are so keen on signing Wharton, who put in a fantastic first-half performance, once again catching the eye with his passing ability.
With Amorim in the market for a new midfielder, INEOS should go all out to sign the Crystal Palace star, who was unlucky to be on the losing side after bossing the midfield in the first half, although Casemiro did manage to turn things around.
Although he lost possession 11 times, the Brazilian made a number of key defensive contributions throughout the match, winning seven duels, the second-highest number of any United player, while also making two interceptions, three clearances and three tackles.

Journalist Liam Canning was also left impressed with the 33-year-old’s display, in what could be his final season as a Man United player, although an encouraging new update from Fabrizio Romano suggests the central midfielder could extend his contract beyond next summer…
Manchester United are keen to secure a new midfield arrival and could now be set to turn to a star who Sir Alex Ferguson once likened to David Beckham.
The Red Devils are probing in their hunt to climb the Premier League table under Ruben Amorim and will hope that they can attack their festive schedule now that the international break is over, even if they need to navigate injuries and absences along the way.
Benjamin Sesko is set to be on the sidelines, and the former Sporting boss has confirmed that his summer striker signing is set to return around the same time that Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui exit for the African Cup of Nations.
He said on his potential return: “He’s going to stay a few weeks out. I don’t know how long but it is not that serious. We have to be careful with him. He is doing the recovery, he is feeling better, so in a few weeks I expect to have Ben.
“I think it’s going to be more or less at the same time. I don’t want to say for sure but when they are going to the camp, I expect to have Ben back.”
While the goals have been spread for Manchester United this season, there is always a cause to add more expertise in front of the target to alleviate pressure on the strikers, something Mbeumo in particular has brought to the club since his summer move from Brentford.
With the transfer window fast approaching, Amorim and INEOS will have their list of targets in place and ready to go, either for the January period or even beyond into the summer.
Man Utd now make approach to sign exciting gem who shone at U17 World Cup
The Red Devils are now keen to secure his signature before some high-profile suitors.
BySean Markus Clifford Nov 23, 2025
Now, they have added a surprise name to their shortlist who is a popular figure among supporters, and news that he could be set to move to Manchester would certainly make headlines.
Man Utd eyeing surprise Scott McTominay return
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United are eyeing a surprise return for Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, who is also on the radar of Arsenal due to his exploits for club and country.
His career revival since leaving Old Trafford hasn’t gone unnoticed, with the Scotland international striking 17 times and registering eight assists in 51 appearances for the reigning Serie A champions.
Of course, McTominay’s exploits for the Tartan Army have also drawn worldwide attention, especially after his incredible overhead kick strike to help his country edge out Denmark for a place at the World Cup finals.
Happy in Italy, it is believed that Napoli has set a £60 million valuation of the 28-year-old, and unless something drastic were to happen, a summer 2026 transfer move appears to be the most likely outcome.
Manchester United have been in the market for a midfielder to add to their existing pool of options, though it would be a surprise if they were to bring in a former academy star with such a strong connection to the club, where his ascent was even likened to Beckham’s at Old Trafford by Ferguson.
Liverpool’s defence have borne the brunt of the criticism for the club’s landslide in form this season. Such reproval has hardly been undue. However, Arne Slot’s forwards have also struggled to implement his tactics.
The plain truth is that the Reds have so many punctures across their system, and the boss has an increasingly slim period to overturn the plummet in form that has led to nine defeats across 12 matches in all competitions.
Ahead of their trip to West Ham United on Sunday, Liverpool languish in 13th place in the Premier League, and there are so many creases for Slot and his staff to iron out if a turnaround is to be found.
Mohamed Salah has for so long been an unstoppable force for the Anfield side, but he’s been among the most disappointing members of the team this season, and the right wing is becoming a weak link.
Liverpool considering Mo Salah successor
If Salah sees out the £400k-per-week contract he extended back in April, he will leave Liverpool in 2027, marking a decade on Merseyside.
He has scored 250 goals and provided 116 assists across 419 appearances in a Liverpool shirt, and he is one of the greatest players in Premier League history.

But there’s no denying the 33-year-old has been miles south of his usual standards this season, wasteful in the final third and drifting on the edge of Slot’s malfunctioning system.
There remains hope that Salah will rediscover his form, but a success plan needs to be put in place, and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh has been earmarked as a possible option.
According to Spanish sources, Liverpool are ‘seriously considering’ a move for the 21-year-old winger, who has established himself in the Premier League since the start of last season.
It’s unclear at this stage what Brighton would demand for their rising star, but he wouldn’t come cheap, certainly more than the £35m figure the Seagulls paid Newcastle to bring him to the south coast in 2024. Some sources suggest discussions could enter the £100m ballpark.
Why Liverpool want Yankuba Minteh
Minteh has actually worked under Slot’s wing before, scoring nine times across 36 matches on loan during the 2023/24 season, assisting five goals too.
Yankuba Minteh scores for Feyenoord
Newcastle were then forced into selling their Gambian prospect to ease PSR-related concerns, and he has become a star in the Premier League, hailed by talent scout Jacek Kulig as “one of the standout wingers” in the division back at the start of the term.
While he’s only scored once across 12 matches, Minteh has assisted four goals and maintained the kind of athletic level of performance that would raise the bar at Liverpool, with Sofascore recording that he has averaged 2.5 dribbles and won 6.3 duels per game.
His qualities are further underscored by FBref’s data. In the Premier League this term, Minteh ranks among the top 6% of positional peers for progressive carries and successful take-ons, the top 1% for goal-creating actions and the top 11% for tackles won per 90.
This blend of physicality and potency – the wide forward scored seven goals last year – is almost reminiscent of Sadio Mane in his Liverpool pomp.
This was actually picked up by one football scout, who has said that Minteh can “can reach Sadio Mane[‘s] level” if he continues to foster his natural qualities.
Minteh is still so young. He is 21. Mane, for what it’s worth, was 24 when moving from Southampton to Liverpool in a £34m deal.
Sadio Mane for Liverpool
Mane didn’t match Salah’s jaw-dropping output, but he certainly came close, and 120 goals and 46 assists over 269 outings during Jurgen Klopp’s golden years is hardly a poor return.
Unlike Salah, the 34-year-old always had a bit more fury in his game, so combative and electric on the ball.
If Minteh could capture even a portion of the form Mane projected at Anfield over so many years, he would more than endear himself to the Reds fanbase.
But, as those in the know would tell you, he has what it takes to emulate the Senegalese icon.

Australia are preparing to face Pakistan in Colombo after their second match was washed out

‘Tough to make a case against Australia winning the lot’
Megan Schutt has been termed the “ultimate professional” for the way she responded to being left out of Australia’s opening ODI World Cup match against New Zealand. She does, however, face a further wait to see if she will be included against Pakistan in Colombo.Due to the washed-out match against Sri Lanka, it will be a seven-day gap for Australia when they take on Pakistan. Head coach Shelley Nitschke did not confirm whether Schutt would have featured in that abandoned contest after Darcie Brown’s pace had been preferred against New Zealand.Related

Schutt: 'I didn't have the skill or work ethic, I just happened to be able to swing a ball'
Schutt has 10 wickets in nine ODIs against Pakistan although she did go wicketless in the two most recent matches, at home, between the two sides in early 2023. Brown, meanwhile, has five wickets in two outings – figures of 2 for 21 and 3 for 32 in Brisbane – but she was taken for 52 off four overs against New Zealand in the World Cup opener.”She [Schutt] is obviously the ultimate professional and she took it very well,” Nitschke said on Monday. “We sort of looked at the match-ups and the performances coming in, but certainly I understand that Megan’s got a big role to play for us moving forward. We’ll have another look again at the match-ups and the conditions at Premadasa before we take on Pakistan and see if she’s in that right sort of team to best match up to them to hopefully win.”Speaking to ESPNcricinfo prior to the World Cup, Schutt said she had hoped to feature throughout. “I’d like to think my previous performances have kept me in good stead for that,” she said. “Obviously if it doesn’t work out, I will completely understand the balance of the squad and run drinks as best as I can if I’m not in the XI. But ideally I’d love to be out on the field doing what I do with people that I love. I like to think I’ve got pretty good awareness to know if that’s not going happen but ideally, I’d love to play all the games and get right through.”Sophie Molineux was outstanding on her return•Getty ImagesThe other key selection call Australia made for the opening match was preferring Alana King ahead of fellow legspinner Georgia Wareham. The fact there wasn’t room for both was because of Sophie Molineux’s return to the side which saw her take 3 for 25, including the wicket of Suzie Bates in her first over and the final removal of Izzy Gaze who was flying on 28 off 18 balls alongside a dominant Sophie Devine. It was Molineux’s first international since last December and Nitschke confirmed the left-arm spinner will need to be looked after as she continues to regain strength from knee surgery.”She [Molineux] was fantastic in that first round,” Nitschke said. “To open the bowling first game back and return figures like she did was unbelievable and a credit to her and the work she’s done to get her back to being available to play for us.”I think her knee is just ongoing management and seeing how it responds to training and games and looking at her availability from there. We’ll make sure that we’re doing the right thing by her and hopefully having her available when we need her.”When a decision needs to be made between King and Wareham, Nitschke said “sometimes it’s actually not about one or the other, like they bring different things to the table. I think Alana probably spins the ball a bit more and she’s a bit more attacking. Georgia can find a really good defensive length and [has] got a few variations that she goes to.”They both offer different things so it’s also about what we think we need in the game. Alana makes things happen, like I said, she’s an attacking bowler, as does Wolf [Wareham], but she also plays a lot of T20 and knows how to hit a really good defensive length at times as well.”The match in Colombo on Sunday between India and Pakistan saw play suspended for 15 minutes while the ground was fumigated against flying insects. It’s a problem Australia have not experienced during their training sessions in the city.”I’m not sure if that’s relative to the conditions and the bit of moisture that’s around,” Nitschke said. “But hopefully the fumigators are out and ready to go if that’s the case.”
