INEOS in contact for "phenomenal" £86m star who wants to join Man Utd instead of Arsenal

Despite finishing as low as 15th in the Premier League last season and missing out on every European competition, Manchester United’s exciting summer transfer window could be set to continue amid reports that one target has made a shock U-turn.

Mbeumo set to undergo Man Utd medical

After submitting an offer in excess of £60m, Manchester United have taken a vital step closer to signing Mbeumo, who is now reportedly scheduled to undergo a medical at the club as early as next week. The Brentford forward, like Cunha, is a transformative signing for Ruben Amorim’s frontline which was often found wanting last season.

Ahead of the biggest move of his career yet, Mbeumo has already received the backing of Manchester United legend Gary Neville, who spoke about the impact that both he and Cunha could make at Old Trafford.

He told Sky Sports: “[Man United] need players who are going to come in and hit the ground running. United has become a very difficult place for new signings to operate in the last ten years.

“Cunha and Mbeumo have obviously got Premier League experience. They’ve got plenty of games under their belt. [English football] is not new to them and actually they are the right type.

ByTom Cunningham Jun 27, 2025

“When I watch Manchester United wide players, they have to be able to get from box-to-box quickly. They have to be able to run, to travel with and without the ball. Mbeumo and, to be fair Cunha, can do that.”

Whilst the new attacking duo is no doubt impressive, INEOS may not be done there with incomings amid reports that one of their top targets has made a shock transfer U-turn.

Gyokeres now wants Man Utd move instead of Arsenal

In what could prove to be an almighty mistake, Arsenal’s increasing interest for Benjamin Sesko has re-opened the door for INEOS to make their best move yet at Old Trafford.

The Gunners have been chasing both strikers for weeks, laying groundwork and weighing their options, but according to The Mirror, INEOS and Manchester United are in contact to sign Viktor Gyokeres and the Swede now believes that a move to the Red Devils is his best option this summer.

The Swede’s departure from Sporting has become somewhat inevitable after his public spat with the Portuguese club and United should take full advantage of the forward’s desire to reunite with former boss Amorim.

Sporting CP's ViktorGyokereskisses the trophy as he celebrate after winning the Taca de Portugal

The disagreement came to the fore when Sporting president Frederico Varandas accused Gyokeres’ agent of falsely claiming that there had been a gentleman’s agreement to sell the star striker for around £59m this summer. Instead, the Portuguese club have reportedly priced the Swede at as much as £86m – a price that his camp believe is too high to ensure a move in the coming months.

In today’s market though, Sporting may argue that a player who scored 54 goals in 52 games last season is worth every penny of that £86m fee. Whether Manchester United share that sentiment and sign a player who Sporting boss Rui Borges dubbed “phenomenal” remains to be seen, however.

Tottenham now offered £42m star who Mourinho held talks to sign for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are set for a crucial summer transfer window after deciding to appoint Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement, and many areas of the squad could be reinforced.

Tottenham transfer plans after appointing Thomas Frank

The Dane will become Spurs’ new man in the dugout ahead of next season, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that an agreement has been reached for Frank to join Tottenham after Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Postecoglou.

Frank is an adept choice to step into Postecoglou’s shoes, mainly due to his proven efficiency operating on a shoe-string budget and working under a data-driven recruitment model at Brentford, which will undoubtedly have been a major attraction for Levy.

However, there are some questions surrounding his suitability when taking into account his lack of trophy-winning or Champions League experience.

Frank will need all the help he can get over the coming months as Spurs look to reinforce a squad which was blighted by repeated injuries last season, with the 51-year-old already said to be having a say in the club’s recruitment drive.

Brentford managerThomasFrankapplauds fans after the match

Frank has reportedly recommended Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze to Levy as a potential signing this summer, following a report from Sky Sports that a new midfielder and forward is seen as the priority for them before deadline day on September 1.

However, star defender Cristian Romero could also leave Spurs, with Atlético Madrid expressing a serious interest in the Argentine.

If the 27-year-old does quit Tottenham, the north Londoners, and especially Frank, would need a like-for-like replacement.

Tottenham made an ambitious £70 million bid for England defender Marc Guehi in January, and reports suggest the Palace star remains on their radar for this summer as he fast approaches the final 12 months of his contract.

Tottenham offered Bayern Munich defender Min-jae Kim

However, according to The Boot Room, an intriguing transfer opportunity has emerged in the form of £195,000-per-week Bayern Munich defender Kim min-Jae.

They report that Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Kim, alongside other Premier League sides, with Bayern willing to entertain selling the South Korea international, who could cost around £42 million.

The 28-year-old was a mainstay under Vincent Kompany last season, but Jonathan Tah’s arrival in Bavaria and Dayot Upamecano’s talks over a new deal mean Kim could now leave the club.

Interestingly, ex-Lilywhites boss Jose Mourinho was desperate for Levy to sign the centre-half during his tenure in charge at Spurs, revealing in 2023 that he held extensive talks to make it happen.

“I can tell you a story about one of their players,” said Mourinho about his failed pursuit of Kim at Spurs.

“I spoke to him on FaceTime and wanted to buy him at Tottenham, but Tottenham didn’t help me.

“The player cost ten million, Tottenham offered five. A deal could be done for seven or eight, but at that time Tottenham couldn’t spend money. I spoke to the lad two or three times via FaceTime, he really wanted to come, but he couldn’t come. And now he’s that ‘rubbish’ defender who plays there, Kim.”

Their own Wirtz: Arsenal make contact to sign £70m "machine"

The transfer window has been open for a week now, and Arsenal need to kick into gear.

There may be another, longer window in which to confirm deals after the Club World Cup, but Mikel Arteta and Co risk falling further behind their Premier League rivals should they waste any more time.

For example, Manchester City have already received the ‘here we go’ treatment for Rayan Aït-Nouri and worse than that, Liverpool look insistent on signing the incredibly exciting Florian Wirtz as soon as possible.

However, the good news is that recent reports have linked Arsenal with another sensationally creative talent who could be their answer to the German international.

Arsenal transfer news

Before getting to the star in question, it’s worth going over some of the other brilliantly talented players who have been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks and months, like Morgan Gibbs-White and Xavi Simons.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The former could cost the Gunners a whopping £100m, although, given his undeniable importance to Nottingham Forest, the fact he’s Premier League proven and his tally of seven goals and ten assists in 34 PL games, that fee is hardly surprising.

On the other hand, Simons would cost substantially less at £65m and has arguably had an even better campaign for RB Leipzig this year, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

Yet, there is another target who has now entered the picture, someone who’d be a better signing than both players above: Morgan Rogers.

Yes, according to a recent report from Charlie Gordon of the Express, Arsenal are now very interested in signing the Aston Villa star.

In fact, the report goes a step further, revealing that the North Londoners have already made contact over the English talent, although the Midlands club could demand a fee ‘well in excess of £70m.’

It could be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Rogers’ incredible ability and boundless potential, it’s one worth fighting for, especially as he’d be the perfect answer to Wirtz.

Why Rogers could be Arsenal's Wirtz

So, while it’s certainly a bold claim to suggest that Rogers could be Arsenal’s own Wirtz this summer and beyond, there are a few reasons why we feel more than comfortable making it.

Morgan Rogers

The first is that even though the German did have marginally better output this season, both players produced very similar numbers in this regard, and the Villa ace in a league UEFA ranks as the toughest in Europe – with the Bundesliga coming as the fourth hardest.

For example, the Bayer Leverkusen star scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 appearances, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.45 games.

In comparison, the Villans’ creative “machine,” as dubbed by The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell, managed to score 14 goals and provide 15 assists in 54 appearances, which comes out to a still impressive but ever-so slightly worse average of a goal involvement every 1.86 games.

On top of their output, the pair are both 22 years old and while they can play in a number of positions – the “unstoppable” Claret and Blue gem, as dubbed by Jamie Carragher, being particularly adept at playing out wide – they are undoubtedly at their best as the most attacking midfielder in the team.

Finally, if these deals do go through, then both internationals would be moving to two of the favourites for the title next season and would almost certainly be doing so with the intention of revolutionising their respective sides’ creativity and attacking style.

Ultimately, while he’s not as big a name and has a lower price tag, Rogers looks like he could be Arsenal’s own Wirtz this summer and beyond, so Arteta and Co should do everything they can to bring him to the club as soon as possible.

Their best signing since Rice: Arsenal racing to land £63m "powerhouse"

Even though this season has been a painfully disappointing one for Arsenal, there have been at least a few positives to come from it.

One of them has been the continued development of Declan Rice, who now looks entirely at home in his left-eight role and is arguably one of the club’s most important players.

For example, even though the team have not been as free-flowing as they were last year, the Englishman has still been able to rack up a seriously impressive haul of eight goals and ten assists in 50 games, was immense in both legs against Real Madrid and has a genuine shout for being the best signing of the Mikel Arteta era.

However, if recent reports are to be believed, he may soon have some more competition for that title, as the club could soon, at the very least, make their best signing since the former West Ham United captain.

Arsenal transfer news

In the last few weeks, Arsenal have been linked to several top-quality players who could become their best signings since Rice, such as Rafael Leao and Benjamin Sesko.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The former is reportedly available for around £85m, which would instantly make him one of the Gunners’ most expensive acquisitions ever, but as he’s racked up 12 goals and 13 assists in 48 games this season, he’d likely be worth it.

On the other hand, Sesko would cost a little less, at around £67m, but again, that’s more than a fair price tag, as in just 44 games for RB Leipzig, he’s scored 21 goals and provided six assists.

RB Leipzig's BenjaminSeskocelebrates

Yet, to really have a chance of being the club’s best signing since Rice, the prospective player needs to be truly remarkable, game-breaking even, which is where Viktor Gyokeres comes in.

According to a recent report from respected journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal have maintained their strong interest in the Sporting CP star.

Ornstein further explains that the Swedish international is someone that new Sporting Director Andrea Berta “really likes,” but that the club may need to speed up their pursuit of him in light of interest from other teams like Manchester United.

A potential price tag is not mentioned in the report, but stories from earlier this week revealed that the Gunners have already submitted an offer in the region of £63m, which could be seen as too low for a player with a £85m release clause.

Sporting Club's Francisco Trinaco and Viktor Gyokeres.

It could be a costly and complicated transfer to get over the line, but with how well he’s played over the last couple of years, one more than worth fighting for.

Why Gyokeres would be Arsenal's best signing since Rice

There are likely a number of reasons why Gyokeres could end up being Arsenal’s best signing since Rice, from the boost he’d provide the team to how the commercial revenue of signing a sought-after-striker at the peak of his powers.

However, every positive about signing the Swedish international stems from one thing: his output.

Yes, it might be rather simplistic, but ultimately, what the Gunners need more than anything else this summer is someone who can put the ball in the back of the net on a consistent basis, and if the last two seasons are anything to go by, that’s something the Sporting star can do with his eyes closed.

Sporting CP's ViktorGyokeres

For example, in 50 appearances last season, the 26-year-old “powerhouse,” as dubbed by analyst Ben Mattinson, scored a staggering 43 goals and provided 15 assists, which came out to an average of 1.16 goal involvements every game.

Then, instead of plateauing, he’s got even better this season and currently has a tally of 52 goals and 13 assists in 50 appearances, which comes out to a frankly absurd average of 1.3 goal involvements per game. It’s safe to say he’s a true “monster” in the worlds of journalist Alex Turk

Finally, on top of doing the business at club level, the Stockholm goal machine has also been a tour de force for the national side, racking up a haul of 15 goals and six assists in just 26 appearances, which is an average of a goal involvement every 1.23 games.

Ultimately, to become Arsenal’s best signing since Rice, a player has to come in and utterly transform the side while pushing them closer to glory, and if Gyokeres can replicate even 50% of his Sporting output in North London, then he’ll do just that.

Levy not messing around: Spurs pushing hard for "incredible" free signing

Tottenham Hotspur are now pushing hard to sign an “incredible” midfielder, and they are confident they will win the race for his signature, according to a report.

Tottenham eyeing reinforcements in multiple areas

Barring an unlikely triumph in the Europa League, the 2024-25 campaign is likely to go down as a season to forget for Tottenham, with it looking increasingly likely they will finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Injuries no doubt haven’t helped their cause, but the fact Spurs have fallen way below expectations indicates several reinforcements may be needed in the summer, and they are eyeing players in multiple positions.

A new striker is of interest, with Dominic Solanke and Richarlison suffering their fair share of injury problems this season, and the Lilywhites are now making moves to sign Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while they are also stepping up their pursuit of Lille’s Jonathan David.

Tottenham may green light move for "Levy character" to replace Postecoglou

With Cristian Romero potentially in line to leave Tottenham this summer, a new centre-back may also be required, and they are incredibly keen on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, who is set to be available on a free transfer.

Tah is not the only free agent that Tottenham are eyeing, however, with a report from The Boot Room revealing they are determined to sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, whose contract is set to expire this summer.

England'sAngelGomesin action

Spurs are pushing hard to get a deal for Gomes over the line, having been leading the race for his signature for quite some time, and they are confident they will be able to strike an agreement.

London rivals West Ham United have also been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, but widespread reports state he has turned down a move to the London Stadium.

Signing "incredible" Gomes could be shrewd business

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear Tottenham will have to be clever with how they operate in the transfer market this summer, saying: “We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club,”

“Recruitment remains a key focus, and we must ensure that we make smart purchases within our financial means.”

As such, it would be financially prudent to pursue free agents this summer, and signing Gomes could be a shrewd bit of business, given how impressive he has looked in a Lille shirt, notably impressing with his long-range passing last season.

The England international has also been lauded as “incredible” by Carlisle United midfielder Callum Whelan, indicating he could be a fantastic addition for Tottenham, who may be in need of at least one new midfielder, with Yves Bissouma’s future in doubt.

Bangladesh batters bloom on better pitch, but questions remain

Coach Domingo says players coming through the domestic system aren’t quite ready for international cricket

Mohammad Isam30-Nov-2021Bangladesh’s batters might be looking for ways to transfer the Chattogram pitch back to Mirpur, the venue of the second Test. The highway between the two is great these days. There is also a river cargo route. Of course, the bowlers wouldn’t necessarily help out in the shipping process, but at a time of low confidence in the team, the pitch for the first Test against Pakistan came as a breath of fresh air for the home side. That said, despite a pitch that had more runs in it, Bangladesh didn’t have a lot of batters stepping up. Only Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim made runs in both innings, while Yasir Ali started well in the second innings before his concussion blow. The top order collapsed twice, including captain Mominul Haque, a Chattogram giant. It cost them the Test match, but after more than four months of a batting drought, which included a period when they didn’t score a half-century or put together a 50-run stand for four weeks, Chattogram gave the batters some relief.Bangladesh is one of the few cricket teams that consistently ends up playing in bowling-friendly conditions both at home and abroad. When they travel, they are naturally enough presented with green-tinged and pacy pitches where feasible. Since 2016, their home strategy, particularly in Mirpur, has been to aid the spinners. It has backfired as often as it has worked, since the Bangladesh batters themselves struggle on these pitches.Related

Mominul said that he preferred the kind of pitch they got at Chattogram, but that Bangladesh’s fast bowlers needed to become more skilful to bowl on these surfaces.”I prefer this type of wicket,” Mominul said. “It was totally flat. It was good for batting. But of course, it was tough for the pace bowlers. I think they need to know how to bowl on a flat wicket. I think the coaches can also explain this better. It is different bowling at home compared to overseas conditions. Our fast bowlers have to play a lot of four-day matches.”This wasn’t a spin wicket. It was a flat wicket. In a spin wicket, the ball turns from the third or fourth day. At least four or five balls turn on a spin wicket. Here one or two balls were turning.”Coach Russell Domingo had said on Tuesday that Bangladesh missed a trick on this pitch by not getting a bigger score in the second innings.”I think this has been a really good wicket,” Domingo said. “We let ourselves down in the second innings. A score around 250-280 would have put us in a great position. I think we play really good Test cricket when we have been on top of the game. I keep telling my coaches [in the support staff] that Bangladesh is in a very difficult situation. When we play on good wickets, we might not have the firepower to bowl sides out, like Pakistan might have. When we play on wickets that spin, we definitely have the firepower to bowl sides out but then our batsmen can be challenged as well. If you want to develop confidence in our batting line-up, you have to get our batting numbers up. It is a tough situation. Bangladesh seamers struggle historically on good wickets. Our batters seem to struggle on spin wickets.”Domingo believes that most Bangladesh cricketers have to enter the senior side with some readiness, but domestic cricket doesn’t quite prepare them for the international stage.”There’s some exciting young players coming through but they are long way off where they need to be as international batsmen and bowlers,” he said. “The more cricket they play at the domestic level or A-team tours, the better it will be for the national side. Right now, the step up from domestic to international cricket is a massive step. It is something BCB needs to look at to make sure they impact the game and not take a long time to find their feet.”

“When we play on good wickets, we might not have the firepower to bowl sides out… When we play on wickets that spin, we definitely have the firepower to bowl sides out but then our batsmen can be challenged as well.”Russell Domingo

Taijul Islam’s bowling and Liton’s batting were some of the few bright spots for Bangladesh in what was eventually an eight-wicket defeat, particularly in the way Liton bounced back after an ordinary T20 World Cup campaign. Domingo predicted that Liton’s progress as a Test batter could see him get a promotion soon.”Liton has been averaging close to 60 in the last 18 months. He has played some really good innings for us in the middle. We found a good spot for him at No. 6 or 7, which allows him to bat with the lower order and get the confidence going. We know he is a fantastic player. It took him a while to find his way in Test cricket. Over the last year, he has been a big positive for us in Tests. Maybe in another year’s time, he can be the new No. 4 or 5 for Bangladesh.”Mominul, meanwhile, applauded Taijul’s bowling effort when he took 7 for 116 in the first innings to give Bangladesh a first-innings lead – which had seemed improbable when Pakistan’s openers put on 146.”I think one of our biggest gains from this game was Taijul’s bowling. He took eight wickets on this pitch, which is a lot of hard work. I think he has improved a lot and certainly he inspires everyone. It was due to Taijul that we took the lead.”

Even Shohei Ohtani Had to Admire Filthy Breaking Pitch From Paul Skenes

Shohei Ohtani is baseball unicorn, as evidenced by his rare two-way skills.

Ohtani's skill as both a pitcher and hitter also makes him uniquely able to identify with the trials and tribulations of both pitching and hitting. Such an instance occurred during the Pirates' 5-3 win over the Dodgers, in which Ohtani found himself face-to-face with arguably the best pitcher in the game in Pirates ace Paul Skenes.

In three plate appearances against Skenes, Ohtani struck out twice and worked a walk. And during the third showdown between Skenes and Ohtani in the top of the sixth inning, there was a game-recognize-game moment when the Pirates righthander unleashed a filthy breaker on the Dodgers slugger.

On the first pitch, Skenes delivered a nasty sweeper that appeared headed for the outside corner of the plate before it boomeranged back into the zone for a called strike.

Ohtani, after taking the pitch, did a double take at its absurd movement.

After Thursday's contest, Ohtani is now 2-for-11 with a home run, a walk and six strikeouts against Skenes in his career. Skenes, meanwhile, tossed six scoreless innings and struck out eight batters to earn the win, lowering his ERA to 1.98 in the process.

Arteta a big fan: Arsenal “could make a move” for “world-class” £65m forward

Arsenal “could make a move” for a “world-class” forward, who Mikel Arteta is known to be a big fan of.

Gunners eyeing new forward after "painful" Aston Villa defeat

Arteta’s side suffered one of their first real setbacks of the season on Saturday, with Aston Villa emerging as 2-1 winners after Emiliano Buendia’s late winner, and the manager was left frustrated by the manner of the defeat.

The Spaniard said: “Last kick of the game we have the chance with the cross from Declan for Noni and Viktor. We don’t score. Goal kick long, second ball, clear the ball, individual action. The ball comes inside the box and you end up losing it. It is painful.”

On the brighter side, the Gunners remain two points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, and a number of Arteta’s summer signings have hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium.

Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke have received praise for their performances, with Eberechi Eze also catching the eye, most notably scoring a hat-trick in the emphatic 4-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Despite signing Eze and Madueke, however, Arsenal remain interested in signing another new forward, and journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed they “could make a move” for AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

Speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke confirmed that a number of top Premier League clubs are in the race for Semenyo’s signature, namely Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Ghanaian’s £65m release clause will become active in the January transfer window, but the interested clubs may also choose to wait until the summer, at which point he will be available for just £50m.

Arteta is known to be a big fan of the London-born forward, who is also impressive in the air, averaging 2.14 aerials won per 90 over the past year, which places him in the 97th percentile, compared to other attacking midfielders and wingers.

The former Newport County man has been impressing in the Premier League for quite some time, scoring a remarkable solo goal against Burnley during the 2023-24 campaign.

Clearly, Semenyo could now be ready to make the step-up to a top club, but having signed the likes of Madueke, Eze and Viktor Gyokeres in the summer, there are question marks over whether Arsenal need to bring in another new attacker next month.

Man Utd complete second-half comeback to prevail at Palace

Man United’s performance in the first half of the win against the Eagles left a lot to be desired, with Mark Goldbridge taking to X to criticise Ruben Amorim, while also taking aim at the manager’s reluctance to change things at half-time.

However, Amorim’s approach ultimately paid off, with Joshua Zirkzee cancelling out Jean-Philippe Mateta’s opener early in the second half, before Mason Mount secured all three points after being laid off by Bruno Fernandes from a free-kick.

The Red Devils were able to close out a 2-1 win, bringing their four-game winless run against Palace to an end, but it was far from a vintage performance, with Luckhurst taking to X to criticise Casemiro’s performance during the first half.

The reporter said: “Not remotely got going and Casemiro looks haunted up against Adam Wharton again.”

Man Utd should go all out to sign Wharton

It is little wonder United are so keen on signing Wharton, who put in a fantastic first-half performance, once again catching the eye with his passing ability.

With Amorim in the market for a new midfielder, INEOS should go all out to sign the Crystal Palace star, who was unlucky to be on the losing side after bossing the midfield in the first half, although Casemiro did manage to turn things around.

Although he lost possession 11 times, the Brazilian made a number of key defensive contributions throughout the match, winning seven duels, the second-highest number of any United player, while also making two interceptions, three clearances and three tackles.
