Oxford closing in on Harrison

Major transfer news has emerged about Portsmouth forward Ellis Harrison, regarding where he will be playing his football next season.

What’s the talk?

According to Portsmouth outlet The News, Harrison is closing in on a move to League One outfit Oxford United this week. Harrison favours a transfer to Oxford over other interested parties and is now on the verge of leaving Portsmouth for Karl Robinson’s side.

The report claims Portsmouth have been keen to sell Harrison this summer as Danny Cowley looks to reshape his squad ahead of next season. Harrison is said to be one of the highest-earners within the Pompey squad in League One, which is one of the reasons behind his prospective sale.

Back in 2020, at-the-time Pompey assistant manager Joe Gallen praised the “aggressive” forward for his selflessness on the pitch. He told The News:

“When Ellis is really on his game, for League One he is very hard to handle.”He’s a very aggressive player, he’s a very good foil for a goalscorer.”Some centre-forwards just want to score and that’s fine. When Ellis goes onto the football pitch, although he’s a centre-forward, he’s actually a real team player.” Fans will love it

Portsmouth fans will love this news as it means that the club are on the verge of getting rid of an underperforming player ahead of next season. Harrison has struggled to find his best form for Pompey since arriving from Ipswich in 2019, with just nine League One goals in two years. He managed four goals in 25 appearances in the season just gone, highlighting his lack of form in front of goals, and this is why fans should be happy to see him depart from Fratton Park in the coming days/weeks.

The £4.3k-per-week dud is the third-highest earner at Portsmouth and his performances have not reflected that for the club in League One. He ranked 13th in the squad for average WhoScored ratings in the 2020/21 campaign, playing 25 times across the season. This suggests that Portsmouth have been overpaying Harrison for his services and, therefore, shipping him on could be a smart move by the club from a financial standpoint, as well as from the footballing side.

This deal could be a shrewd piece of business from Portsmouth. It should allow Cowley to replace an underperforming member of his team with a new arrival, as the fee Oxford are set to pay for Harrison – which remains undisclosed – could potentially help Portsmouth land one of Cowley’s targets.

Now it is down to Portsmouth and Cowley to bring in an excellent player to replace Harrison and improve the squad to boost their chances of promotion.

Confira as atuações do Peixe:

6,0
Vanderlei

Cometeu alguns vacilos defensivos.
6,0

6,5
Zeca
O melhor do sistema defensivo, disparado.

7,0
Copete
A eficiência do colombiano é impressionante.

6,5
Thiago Ribeiro
Recomeçou a vida no Santos levando caneta no lance do gol do Kenitra, mas se recuperou com bonita finalização no quinto tento do Peixe.

5,0
Jean Mota

6,5
Arthur Gomes
Garoto mostrou força e inteligência para dar a assistência para Vladimir Hernández no quarto gol santista. Infernizou pelas pontas.

8,0

Depois, viu o time deslanchar.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Jack Grealish international update

Jack Grealish is set to start England’s final group game in Euro 2020 against the Czech Republic, as reported by The Telegraph.

As England have struggled for attacking fluency at the tournament, many fans and journalists alike have called for the inclusion of the Aston Villa captain in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI, with the 25-year-old having to be content with a 27-minute substitute appearance against Scotland so far at the finals.

Enjoying a fabulous season in 2020/21, Grealish registered a mightily impressive 19 goal contributions from 27 outings, with seven goals and 12 assists [Transfermarkt]. He received due adulation as he was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season accolade at the beginning of June [avfc.co.uk].

After doing considerable damage to opposition backlines all year round, he now seems set to be gifted a golden opportunity on the international stage.

Upon hearing the news, no wonder so many jubilant Villa fans took to Twitter to revel in this development.

Sinclair does it again for CD with 140 not out

An assured 140 not out from Mathew Sinclair put Central Districts in a commanding position on the first day of their sixth round State Championship match against Canterbury at Christchurch’s Village Green today

Matthew Appleby18-Feb-2002An assured 140 not out from Mathew Sinclair put Central Districts in a commanding position on the first day of their sixth round State Championship match against Canterbury at Christchurch’s Village Green today.Central Districts was 267/4 at the close of the first day on a slow pitch with an even more lethargic outfield.Sinclair, the specialist converter of centuries into 150s and beyond, did it again today at QEII in front of the man who counts.Watching chairman of selectors Sir Richard Hadlee was noticeably impressed by the way Sinclair built his innings after coming in at 37/1 in the 12th over.Canterbury struggled to produce chances all day with Ryan Burson (2-52), who was not selected in Canterbury’s original XI, the only successful bowler in the morning session, trapping David Kelly (24) lbw on the crease.Kelly began with a couple of pulled boundaries, but the juicy outfield prevented several shots adding to the total of fours between the tenth and the 26th overs. Before the start Canterbury’s Stephen Cunis failed a fitness test on his injured thigh and Paul Wiseman was recalled. The former New Zealand off spinner was the day’s only successful bowler other than Cunis’ stand-in, Burson. Wiseman had promising newcomer Peter Ingram caught at slip for 35 shortly after lunch, which brought in Ben Smith, who scored 200 not out at New Plymouth when the sides last met in December, to join Sinclair, fresh from a score of 161 at Alexandra last week.By then Sinclair had deliberately and leisurely played himself in before reaching 50 off 97 balls and his twelfth career century in 180 deliveries.Characteristically, Sinclair’s smooth stroke play did not stop there.Since the right-hander scored his maiden century he has had innings of 166 not out against Auckland and 203 not out against Northern Districts in early 1999. He made 214 against the West Indies, 182 for the North Island and 102 for CD in 1999/00 then 100 not out against Zimbabwe President’s XI, 150 against South Africa, 204 not out for New Zealand against Pakistan as well as a score of 145 for CD last season.Sinclair’s recent 161 against Otago signalled the 26-year old’s readiness for England and the Test series. With today’s innings only twice has the Australian-born batsman been out between 100 and 150.Glen Sulzberger, his captain, told CricInfo: “When he gets in he just looks to keep going as much as he can. He was disappointed not to get 200 last week.”We dominated most of the last game against Canterbury,” he rued. Canterbury came back from conceding a double century to Smith to win when Aaron Redmond took four cheap wickets in CD’s second innings.Smith (41) departed to Burson in the 82nd over today, cutting late to Canterbury captain Gary Stead at gully. The score was then 222/3 and could have been more but for the outfield and Canterbury bowling some good lines in the middle of the innings.Sinclair and Sulzberger continued to stumps, quietly emphasising the CD advantage on a lethargic pitch that may take spin on the third and fourth days.”The pitch is starting to crack up a little, especially at one end,” said Sulzberger, rubbing his hands at the thought of bowling his off spin in the fourth innings. “Historically it doesn’t turn here,” he added, “but time will tell I suppose.”Canterbury, lacking hamstring-strain victim Warren Wisneski as well as their salvo of CLEAR Black Caps, struggled with the easterly wind all day. Quick bowlers Burson and Wade Cornelius bowled tight spells prior to lunch, but it may be the team’s spinners who decide the outcome of the match.Sinclair, the man who believes one hundred is never enough was reluctant to speak until the end of his innings.”See him on the third day,” joked a team mate. He might need to be taken seriously by Canterbury unless they can surprise him with the new ball tomorrow morning.

Palace in contract talks with Townsend

Crystal Palace are still holding talks with winger Andros Townsend as they prepare for life after Roy Hodgson’s departure, meaning it is no a foregone conclusion that he will depart Selhurst Park in just over a week’s time.

What’s the story?

The 29-year-old is one of many first-team players set to become a free agent at the end of the month, with a new manager yet to be appointed at Selhurst Park.

“We’re still having brief discussions,” Townsend told talkSPORT (as reported by Football.London).”The club have told all of us that there’s no decisions being made until a manager has been appointed.

“Since then, Christian Benteke has signed a new deal, so… (laughs). So I don’t know. I want to be somewhere on July 1st.

“My agent is in the background now getting as much interest put into an offer, and then I’ll sit down with my agent, and around July 1st (we’ll) see which one is the best for me at this time in my career.”

Fans will be buzzing

Although the £6.3m-rated Townsend hasn’t set the world alight since arriving in south London back in 2016, bagging just 16 goals in 185 appearances for the Eagles, he was still an instrumental figure last season.

The former England international’s haul of five Premier League assists was only bettered by the highly-rated Eberechi Eze, while the pair’s 1.1 shots per league game were the joint-third highest totals.

Townsend’s tally of 1.2 key passes per league game was only bettered by Eze, while his 1.3 dribbles was the fourth-highest total amongst his teammates.

However, supplying a constant stream of quality crosses is where Townsend really excels. He recorded 1.6 crosses per league match throughout 2020/21, far more than any of his Palace colleagues, as per WhoScored.

His impressive performances once saw former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas describe the direct forward as a “fearless player” who can “drive forward and produce great link-up play” which is a set of attributes that could come in handy for whoever fills the vacancy at Selhurst Park and the news that he is still not guaranteed to be leaving Palace should be music to the ears of the club’s fans.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre is the current favourite to replace Hodgson at the capital club and the 63-year-old, along with the club’s supporters, will likely be buzzing that the prospect of Townsend committing his future to Palace isn’t off the table.

And, in other news…Parish could deliver dream Kouyate upgrade for Palace in £22.5m-rated “big prospect”
