Robbie Fowler believes that accusations claiming Mo Salah is greedy are “nonsense” and rubbished the idea of there being a spat between the two.
What did he say?
The falling out between Salah and Sadio Mane against Burnley has reached a level of infamy which has led to a whole host of people sharing their opinion on the matter, despite Jurgen Klopp stating there was no issue between the pair shortly after the match ended.
The duo have started the season in fine form and but for an international break would have likely displayed their co-operation and togetherness whilst playing for the Reds.
Former Liverpool striker Fowler has weighed in, too, suggesting that Salah’s ‘selfishness’ is a reason why he scores so many, describing it as a trait he had in his playing days and as something which is common amongst natural goalscorers.
Writing in The Mirror, Fowler said: “It’s the noise surrounding Mane and Salah that I can’t believe.
“Everyone commenting and talking nonsense about being “greedy” or destroying team spirit, have they never watched football before?
“You don’t score that many goals without being what people say is selfish. But what do people want? Yes, Salah can be selfish when he sees the goal, but, to me, that makes him a great goalscorer.”
The Egyptian’s record speaks for itself, with 74 goals in 110 matches for the Anfield outfit. Accusations of jealousy are therefore unlikely to have much of an effect, and Klopp and the fans will be more than happy if he continues to perform at his current level.
Part of his magic
As Fowler suggests, all brilliant goalscorers have a level of selfishness about them, and without it they wouldn’t score some of the brilliant goals they do.
Since arriving at Anfield, Salah has produced the same, with memorable solo goals at Anfield against Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton all standing out, but goals that never would have been scored if not for Salah’s selfishness and total belief that he had the ability to pull it off.

To alter that would be of detriment to Liverpool, taking away Salah’s unpredictability which makes him, and his forward partners, such an attacking threat.
Mane, too, plays in a similar fashion. He has fewer assists than Salah in a Liverpool shirt despite arriving a year earlier and yet both are European champions with the club, which shows they’re doing something right.
