Tottenham Hotspur look like a team reborn at the moment.

Just a month ago, Ange Postecoglou’s side looked utterly bereft of ideas on the pitch, and there was a real sense that the Australian would soon be out of a job.

The return of injured stars has undoubtedly helped the North Londoners’ cause, but the manager has also been able to extract some brilliant performances out of those who’ve remained fit.

In fact, one of his now regular starting full-backs has been so impressive that he’s now being compared to one of the leading players in his position, who is worth a king’s ransom.

However, summer signing Archie Gray has massively stepped up for the League Cup and Europa League games, as well as occasionally covering for the pair when they’ve been sidelined in the league.

Interestingly, while Sergio Reguilon is still a part of the squad, he has been limited to just 242 minutes of action across five cameo appearances this term, and with his contract expiring in the summer, his exit looks all but guaranteed.

Fortunately, Postecoglou probably won’t miss him, as his final full-back option has arguably been the most impressive this year and has won comparisons to some of the most valuable defenders in the country despite looking like he was on his way out of N17 only a few months ago.

Now, Ben Davies and even Micky van de Ven can and have played as full-backs for Spurs before, but when it comes to the club’s future, there is one player who looks set to make the position their own for years to come: Djed Spence.

The incredible 24-year-old joined the club from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 for around £20m, but until this season, he was rarely a part of the first team, instead going out on loan or, as he did for the start of this campaign, sitting on the sidelines.

His future was so uncertain that just five months ago, Postecoglou decided to leave him out of the club’s Europa League squad, a mistake he has since corrected.

The Englishman began to show his immense quality in the early League Cup games before coming in as cover in the league games from mid-December, and since then, he’s been practically undroppable.

In fact, while he might not have quite the same ability to whip balls into dangerous areas as Porro, the “swashbuckling” defender, as dubbed by Ian Wright, is much more secure on the ball, has a real ability to maraud up the touchline, and perhaps most importantly, is far more secure in defensive situations than the Spanish ace.

The 6 foot dynamo has been so brilliant for the Lilywhites this season, that he has been likened to some of the most exciting full-backs in England, including Manchester City’s incredible Josko Gvardiol.

The comparison primarily stems from FBref, which compares players in similar positions in the Premier League, then creates a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and in this instance, has concluded that the Croatian is the tenth most similar full-back to the Spurs star.

The best way to see where this comparison has come from is to look at the underlying metrics in which the pair rank closely, including, but not limited to, non-penalty goals plus assists, goals per shot and shot on target, expected assists, goal-creating actions, interceptions and more, all per 90.

While being compared to one of the most exciting full-backs in the Premier League is already encouraging enough for the Lilywhites ace’s potential ability, it could also be very good news for his future price tag.

For example, according to Football Transfers, the former RB Leipzig star is now worth up to a whopping €95m, which converts to about £79m.

So, if the Englishman is so statistically similar to the City star, then there is no reason to think he won’t be worth as much a few years down the line, especially if he keeps his current form up.

Ultimately, Spurs have a few talented full-backs at their disposal, but at the moment, it appears that Spence is the pick of the bunch and could be one of the very best in the country in time.

VAR ANULA GOL, MAS BRUSQUE SUPERA E ABRE A CONTAGEM

Com o relógio correndo, o time da casa seguiu tentando surpreender em busca de seu gol. Apesar de chegar com certa frequência em seu campo de ataque, além de ter mais posse de bola, não conseguia finalizar com precisão até meados dos 30 minutos.

Até que aos 36 minutos, finalmente conseguiu balançar as redes com Crislan, após cruzamento de Pará, mas acabou sendo anulado pelo VAR ao flagrar impedimento do atacante. Passados alguns minutos, aos 44, os catarinenses deram a volta por cima e tiraram o zero do marcador. Depois de um contra-ataque iniciado por Rodolfo Potiguar, que acionou Fernandinho, o camisa 11 mandou para a área, fazendo com que Balotelli completasse para o fundo das redes.

Com ambos os treinadores optando por algumas modificações, tanto no intervalo, quanto no decorrer da etapa complementar, era a equipe de Luan Carlos quem seguia melhor. Após uma primeira investida com Fernandinho, na segunda com Wallace, depois de uma cobrança de escanteio de Airton, a bola sobrou para o zagueiro mandar bonito sem chances para Vanderlei. 2 a 0 no Augusto Bauer.

After being put in, Gladiators were 23 for 4 in the seventh over but Guptill not only helped them recover but also lifted them to a competitive total.He rebuilt the innings with a 69-run stand, off 52 balls, with Iftikhar Ahmed and then dominated the 64-run stand with Mohammad Nawaz, scoring 59 off 20 from his bat. Nawaz’s contribution was three from six balls.In reply, Kings also landed in early trouble. They were 35 for 3 inside the powerplay, and then 76 for 5 in the 11th over before Shoaib Malik and Irfan Khan revived the chase. The pair brought the equation down to 37 runs needed off the last three overs but Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain strangled them. That left Kings needing 24 from the final over, and Odean Smith gave away only 17 to secure a six-run win for the visitors.Earlier, Gladiators were pegged back by Imad Wasim, who trapped Jason Roy lbw on the sweep, deceived Abdul Bangalzai to have him stumped, and bowl Umar Akmal to prise out three wickets in his first nine balls. That said, do the problems lie deeper than just missing the influential Spaniard? Is there more to the story than merely the midfield void that the 28-year-old has left?

All good things come to an end, and – on current form – it looks as if the Belgian’s storied Man City career is reaching its climax, with just a matter of months remaining on his existing deal.

Arguably the “greatest” Premier League midfielder of all-time, in the words of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, the former Wolfsburg man has been central to everything good about the Guardiola era, racking up a staggering haul of 280 goals and assists for the club since his arrival back in 2015.

Having set such lofty standards in a side that romped to six league titles in the space of just seven seasons, the now 33-year-old has, perhaps unsurprisingly, regressed in what could prove to be his final campaign at the Etihad.

A return of four goals and seven assists in all competitions in 2024/25 follows what was an impactful, yet injury-hit 2023/24 season, in which the veteran registered 24 goal contributions despite only making 26 appearances.

Perhaps suffering after playing through the pain in the treble-winning season, which culminated in his early withdrawal in the Champions League final, the one-time Chelsea man – who is worth just £22m, according to Football Transfers – appears to have come to the end of the road regardless.

A move to Saudi Arabia or the MLS now appears on the cards, although De Bruyne may not be alone in moving on this summer, with experienced teammate Mateo Kovacic perhaps another in need of a fresh start elsewhere.

أبلغ الحارس، أندريه لونين إدارة ريال مدريد بقراره حول مستقبله بعد العروض التي تلقاها من أندية أوروبية للانضمام لهم في الميركاتو الصيفي الحالي.

وكان لونين قد جدد عقده مع ريال مدريد حتى صيف 2030، ولذلك أكد رغبته للإدارة في مواصلة مشواره داخل “سانتياجو برنابيو”، بحسب صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية، رغم علمه بصعوبة الحصول على فرصة أساسية في ظل وجود، تيبو كورتوا.

ويرى لونين أن الأجواء الاحترافية داخل ريال مدريد، إلى جانب ثقته في نفسه، كافية لتدفعه لمواصلة القتال من أجل فرصته، خاصة بعد مجيء المدرب الجديد تشابي ألونسو الذي بدأ مهامه مع الفريق.

ورغم اهتمام أندية مثل جالطة سراي وأوفييدو بخدماته، لم يبد لونين أي رغبة في مغادرة ريال مدريد، ويركّز حاليًا على التدريبات واستغلال أي فرصة تتاح له خلال الموسم الجديد مع الفريق الأول.

Na próxima rodada do Paulista, o time sub-20 do Verdão terá pela frente o Penapolense, no estádio Municipal Tenente Carriço, em Penápolis, na próxima quarta-feira (3/8), às 15h (de Brasília).

As Crias da Academia não sabem o que é perder um jogo pelo Paulista sub-20 desde setembro do ano passado, quando foram superadas pelo Taubaté, na primeira fase. Desde então, já foram disputadas 32 partidas pelo estadual.

Paralelamente ao Paulista, o time Sub-20 do Palmeiras disputa o Campeonato Brasileiro da categoria. Além de liderar o grupo A, o Verdão tem a melhor campanha geral da competição, com 15 pontos. Na próxima rodada, o time comandado por Paulo Victor Gomes enfrenta o Bahia, neste sábado, às 15h, em Salvador.
